The AB 12U team continued their streak by sweeping through the USA Softball State Championships in Richland, WA with a 4-0 record this past weekend. With the temps in the high 90s, the team was hot in more ways than one. The defense really flashed the leather limiting their opponents to only 6 runs while their bats scorched the opponents for 37 runs, including two run-shortened 8-0 shutouts. 6/25/2017: USSSA Slamfest 15-Open Champions!
For the third straight tournament, the AB 12U team finished a weekend undefeated and champions of the Gold Bracket of a tournament. This time the team played in USSSA Slamfest tournament at the 15-Open level. The bats came alive all weekend, with AB outscoring their opponents 55-10 in the first four games (pool play and semi-finals) with all games being shortened due to the run rule. The final proved to be more challenging both from the opponent and the 95-degree heat. However, AB prevailed for the 8-4 victory and the tournament championship. A two out 2 RBI bases loaded double by Allyson in the third inning and Grace’s 2 run single two pitches later proved to be the difference in the game. Way to represent AB!
6/18/2017: SeaTac Metros 12A Champions!
After a long 9-inning battle in the championship game, the AB 12U team won the SeaTac Metros Championships and earned a berth to USA Softball 12A Nationals. On Saturday, the offense took over the pool play games winning 13-0 and 16-5 with 9-run and 12-run first innings respectively. On Sunday, the team drew a tough Ladyhawks squad for an 8:30am quarterfinal. After two and a half innings AB was down 2-1. Then the offense ignited for a 7-run 3rd inning to put away the Ladyhawks with an 8-2 victory. In the 2nd game, against the Diamond Dusters Black, a 5-run 4th inning locked up the 6-1 victory. However, the play of the game was a 2nd inning triple play that stopped a rally and kept the score at 1-1. The championship game was a test of wills against a very gritty Majestics ’05 team, with AB prevailing. AB was behind most of the game, finally pulling the game even at 5 with a 3-run 6th inning. After the two teams traded runs in the 7th, AB was finally able to secure the win with three runs in the 9th for the 9-7 final. There were two highlight reel defensive plays. The first was Malia sprinting to chase down and catch a hard line drive to center that was certain to go over her head in order to strand the winning run at 3rd base in the 8th inning. The second was a superman-esque diving catch by Amanda on a line drive up the middle in the 9th to stop a run and secure an out. Great team wins all weekend AB!
